Atlanta, Georgia
Golf Community Profile
The relatively new idea of Atlanta suburban living became popular about 90 years ago and entrepreneur and real estate developer Edwin P. Ansley wanted to make sure he got a piece of the pie. Therefore, he developed the first suburban neighborhood outside Atlanta called Ansley Park. North of downtown Atlanta rests the private community of Ansley Park, which is comprised of 275 acres of single family homes, apartments, and even a church. However, the vision of a successful suburban community was not enough to satisfy Ansley and he decided to design a golf course, another growing trend, to include with his new neighborhood living.
By 1912, the golf course was a reality. It was challenging for experienced golfers yet easy enough for those playing for recreation to enjoy as well. Ansley continued and built a clubhouse overlooking the course in 1915 ensuring members had all available amenities. The club initiated as a public course, but in the ‘60s, Ansley Park Golf Club became private and changed its name to Ansley Golf Club. The course ended up being incredibly successful.
