Golf Community Profile
The prestigious golf community known as the Atlanta Country Club opened its doors in 1964 after executive Jim Clay dreamed of bringing the PGA to his favorite town. Of course, this required building a first-class golf course that would be worthy of PGA play. The talented William C. Byrd designed the renowned course and it is located next to Sope Creek. Clay’s dream came true in 1974 when the Atlanta Country Club began hosting the PGA Atlanta Classic.
Many other amateur events have also been hosted by the Atlanta Country Club golf community including the USGA Women’s Amateur as well as the USGA Senior Amateur.
The Atlanta Country Club is not only an amazing course, but it also has a lot of history. This golf community is located nearby ruins from the Civil War, which can still be viewed today from the outstanding course’s 13th hole. The history and design of the Atlanta Country Club result in its being voted one of the best courses in the country year in and year out.
