The Toughest Course in the Country |

07-10-2007There are thousands of golf courses in the United States, and many that are considered to be quite difficult. But each year Golf Digest Magazine chooses the one that is the most difficult in the country. This year, the award goes to Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Ocean Course. Anybody who has ever played at this course knows just how difficult it can be. This holds true for everybody from beginners to professionals.
The Ocean Course was designed by Pete Dye, and opened for business in 1991. Since then this course has been causing fits for golfers from all over the world. According to the United States Golf Association this course has the highest rating in the country at 79.6, as well as the highest slope at 155.
The next major event to take place at Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Ocean Course is the Senior PGA Championship in May of 2007. It is also scheduled to host the PGA Championship in 2012.
Pete Dye is known to be one of the best course designers in the world. But along with his designs come a high level of difficulty. Eight of his courses made the “America’s 50 Toughest Golf Courses’ list.
Taking on the Kiawah Island Golf Resort Ocean Course is no small task. Anybody who can manage to shoot a good round at this course should be proud of themselves. Good scores are a rare find at the toughest course in the country!
