With so many choices of retirement communities and amenities available, it can be easy to become overwhelmed with the choices you must make. Retirement can be a time for relaxing or for being active (or both), depending on your preferences and hobbies. No matter who you are, there is a retirement community to suit your needs, it may just take some research to find it. Here are some tips to get you started in your decision making process:
1.)Take the opportunity to speak with owners and/or managers. Many communities host open houses or events, where prospects can tour the property and ask any questions they may have. This is also a good time to meet current residents.
2.)Inquire as to the noise ordinance of the property. Will you be sharing a wall with someone else? Is it insulated for sound? This may or may not be a problem for you.
3.)Is the community going to expand or is it as big as it is going to get? You may prefer a small community, or like the one you choose "as is".
4.)Does the community have the activities that are most important to you. If you are an avid golfer, boater or swimmer, make sure these needs can be met by the community. Are there extra fees associated with the use of facilities. Make sure they are not too much for your budget. What about association dues and utilities fees?
5.)Location, location, location. Are you happy with the surrounding communities and towns. You may prefer to be close to your family, or maybe an out of state move is warranted.
The main thing to be sure of is that you can be happy with the retirement community you are investigating. If you have doubts or reservations, just keep searching. You WILL find a community that suits your needs.
