Ranked eighth in the nation by Golf Digest magazine, Austin is known for their great golf communities. As a matter of fact, Golf Digest says that Austin is 8th on their new “America’s Greatest Golf Home Towns” which is a huge win for the Texas state capital.
Austin is simply a great place, and the climate lends itself to golf because it is very temperate. Austin is attracting more and more golfers as a result of this ranking system, because those that had not thought of relocating to Austin or buying a vacation home there are suddenly finding the city very appealing.
Austin also has the land for golf, because it is a mixture of rolling hills, lakes, trees, and nature. While many think of Austin as a booming metropolis, it also offers the best in outdoor recreation.
While there are many golf opportunities, the same area also attracts those that hunt, fish, and enjoy the nightlife. As far as golf goes, Barton Creek Resort & Spa is one of the best because it offers some of the most versatile courses in the state.
While Austin placed eighth nationally, the city placed first in the Southwest. This information is important, with more and more baby boomers retiring and looking for more luxurious homes. Also, a third of people who bought vacation homes in 2005 stated that golf was a deciding factor, so getting on the list helps make Austin more desirable to more people.
Austin ranks high because it has quality golf courses, there are a good deal of golf days per year, there is very little golf course congestion, and most of the courses are easily accessible from the airport. Cost of living is also a ranking factor, and compared to other areas homes and cost of living are very affordable, a welcome change for many.
